TP-Link EAP660HD AX3600, much more than a WiFi access point

Offices are one of those environments where Wi-Fi has become essential for everyday life. A business where partners and companies must have the device adapted to their needs. A land where TP-Link EAP660HD AX3600 has a lot to contribute.

The team TP-Link EAP660HD AX3600 Wireless Dual Band Multi-Gigabit Access Point Ceiling Mount is a Wi-Fi Access Point (AP) designed, as its name suggests, to be mounted on the ceiling of an office and, together with more identical devices, provide high-speed Wi-Fi coverage.

The first thing we show you is the video analysis that we have carried out to find out its main characteristics:

This access point is very flexible in the configurations it supports. It can work with WiFi 5 and WiFi 6 networks, it can be managed directly through a web control panel with the free Omada software, through the cloud or through a physical device: Omada SDN OC200 or OC300 controller. It can be installed with a power feeder or get the working voltage from a PoE Ethernet connection. As you can see at this first glance, the possibilities are very wide, allowing it to fit into all kinds of scenarios. Next, we will see all these options in detail.

It has a 2.5G Ethernet port (with IEEE802.3at PoE capability) to connect at high speed with high-speed switches and provide WiFi connectivity of up to 1,148 Mbps in the 2.4GHz band with four antennas and 2,402 Mbps in the 5 GHz with four other antennas. It has 1024 QAM and MU-MIMO technology both upstream and downstream, as well as four times more space for the OFDM symbol table. All this means that the higher raw speed of the two bands translates into a highest actual effective speed and in the ability to support a larger number of devices simultaneously.

Another very remarkable point of the TP-Link EAP660HD AX3600 access point is that applies Artificial Intelligence techniques* to detect possible connectivity problems and propose the most appropriate solutions, as well as to detect and solve network failures. In the same way, this access point automatically selects the channels and working powers to be used for each connection, which facilitates its integration in environments in which it coexists with equipment from other manufacturers.

This device is designed to be installed in areas with a very high density of client equipment such as offices, hotels, restaurants, shopping malls, meeting rooms and all kinds of transport stations. In this type of business there can be large agglomerations of users and two elements are essential. The first is the ability, already seen, to give high-speed access to a large number of simultaneous users. The second, very important in scenarios with a large number of deployed devices, are remote and centralized administration facilities, as well as easy and fast deployment.

Easy centralized management with Omada SDN

This aspect is more than covered thanks to the support omada sdnTP-Link’s specific network management solution that covers three essential areas: a easy maintenance, high security and high availability. Installation and maintenance are made easy by features like Zero-Touch Provisioning support (available in Omada controller in the Cloud), with which it is enough to register the devices in Omada Cloud so that they obtain the configuration automatically; the centralized management of the Omada Cloud network; multi-user management of access permissions or a Wi-Fi heat map simulator that allows detecting areas with low signal coverage.

The management of this access point is one of the most remarkable aspects, in our opinion, since not only offers multiple possibilities, but can grow and adapt to situations with increasing levels of demand. Consider a relatively basic scenario, where IT staff install a few Wi-Fi access points to support, say, multiple departments in a company. So far, those responsible for the administration can manage them directly without further ado. If the management and/or security requirements grow, it may be very worthwhile to incorporate a centralized management system into this scenario and this is where the capabilities of Omada SDN allow it to fit into any type of scenario.

The access point management is one of the most remarkable aspects

We went from the administration web panel of each Access Point to being able to manage everything either from a PC on which the Omada Software Controller application is installed or from a dedicated Omada SDN OC200 or OC300 controller.

In addition, it can also be accessed via the cloud, thanks to the web Omada SDN Cloudwhich greatly facilitates the solution of access problems for a specific user or profile when you are not physically at the company’s facilities, saving you travel if necessary.

The management system Omada SDN allows you to generate highly visual network reports to share with your organization’s stakeholders. They show, graphically, the main metrics of the network, as well as the distribution of traffic and the topology of the network.

In these more demanding contexts, it is where the ability to create user profiles with different roles greatly facilitates the management of a network. Different access privileges can be assigned to different users, as well as adding users with the ability to manage resources as needed.

Security and reliability

The fact that management can be done from Omada Cloud does not mean that user data is not protected. The only information that travels to and from the TP-Link servers is that related to the administration of the services. On the other hand, the infrastructure security deployed with TP-Link EAP660HD AX3600 access points is more than guaranteed thanks to the built-in firewall, as well as IP/MAC Address/URL filtering, access control, WPA3 encryption, the ability to create a captive portal, the PPSK support or the ability to add two-factor authentication (2FA).

The WiFi service reliability that provides a configured network based on TP-Link EAP660HD AX3600 access points she’s very tallsince Cloud access has 99.99% availability, supported by a 24/7 fault detection and solution system or the existence of backup servers located in different regions (only applicable for TP-Link cloud controller) all of them functions and capabilities designed to offer the highest possible security and availability for users who trust TP-Link when setting up their WiFi network.

In summary, the TP-Link EAP660HD AX3600 access point is not only very interesting for its technical characteristics, but it is doubly interesting for being integrated into a family of network equipment with which it is integrated and because it allows you to start with a simple infrastructure that can grow, and much, to meet the needs of the most demanding professional environments.

*These features are available if the device is managed by the Omada controller in the Cloud.
